The Lead Planner is responsible for developing and managing the Integrated Master Schedule for major shutdown and turnaround projects. This role oversees the planning team, ensures schedule accuracy, monitors progress, assesses risks, and provides high-level planning leadership to achieve safe, cost-effective, and timely project execution.

Responsibilities

🔹 Planning & Scheduling
Develop and control the Integrated Master Shutdown Schedule (IMS) aligned with project objectives.
Lead the creation of comprehensive project schedules for all phases—pre-shutdown, execution, and post-shutdown.
Manage schedule baselines, milestones, resource loading, and performance indices.
Evaluate and analyze critical path, schedule variances, and develop recovery/mitigation plans.
🔹 Leadership & Coordination
Lead and supervise planning teams, assigning tasks, responsibilities, and deliverables.
Coordinate schedule reviews with project teams, clients, and contractors.
Provide planning mentorship and support to senior planners and project planners.
Act as the main liaison between client, management, and planning team for schedule-related matters.
🔹 Progress & Reporting
Monitor productivity, manpower loading, cost performance, and resource efficiency.
Prepare and present executive-level reports including S-Curves, Histograms, KPIs, dashboards, and resource curves.
Deliver daily, weekly, and monthly shutdown execution reports and look-ahead plans.
Manage shutdown planning database, documentation, and control systems.
🔹 Risk & Issue Management
Conduct project risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
Identify bottlenecks, scheduling conflicts, and resource constraints.
Support field teams to resolve delays and optimize execution timelines.
🔹 Shutdown / Turnaround Execution
Oversee planning for all turnaround and shutdown activities to ensure timely, safe, and budget-compliant execution.
Manage detailed shutdown execution schedules, job packs, equipment, and manpower allocation.
Ensure alignment with HSE compliance, SOPs, and project specifications.
🔹 Documentation & Close-Out
Prepare Shutdown Closeout Report and lead lessons-learned review sessions.
Maintain centralized planning data for future reference.
Support dispute resolution, scope changes, additional claims, and documentation audits.
🔹 Additional Duties
Ensure subcontracting and resource readiness for mobilization and demobilization.
Update OPP Manager / Section Head daily on project status and critical path conditions.
Perform any other assigned planning responsibilities as directed by management.
📌 Job Boundaries & Decision-Making
Authorized to make planning-related decisions impacting schedules, timelines, and resource management.
Works closely with project leadership for approvals on baseline and major schedule changes.
Responsible for planning integrity and compliance across disciplines.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree (BE / B.Tech) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. 10–15+ years of experience in mega shutdown & turnaround projects within the Oil & Gas / Refinery / Petrochemical sector. Proven experience managing turnarounds with 2000+ multi-disciplinary manpower. Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6, MS Project, MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and planning tools. PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent certification. Experience with major Oil & Gas / Petrochemical maintenance and turnaround methodology. Knowledge of SAP / ERP systems for cost and resource tracking. Ability to prepare and defend claims, variation orders, and schedule recovery plans.
